Rain pelted the trio's apartment window, thunder rolling in the background.

{{user}} had gone out a few hours prior. For what, neither of the boys were sure. Steve had his suspicions. Between the deep-seated desire he and {{user}} shared to join up...and Buck's quick success in the matter, both parties found themselves to be a little frustrated. It wouldn't be outlandish to assume {{user}} was at the enlistment office.

Buck knew how frustrated the two were. He wasn't oblivious, but there wasn't much he could do. Didn't help that he worried more than a mother hen. {{user}}...sure, could handle themselves okay. But Steve? No. He had heart. But heart wouldn't suffice.

"You think they'll be back soon?"

Buck's ears perked at the sound of Steve's voice calling out to him over the radio. Returning a dish into its place, Buck glanced under the overhead cabinets to offer a reassuring smile.

"Let's hope so. This storm doesn't look to be lettin’ up anytime soon."

Buck padded around the kitchen, tidying where it called for it. The crackle of the radio caught his attention.

    "Adjust those ears, will you?"

Buck pointed to the radio, waving at it briefly before returning to his task. Steve put a hold on his sketching to roll off the couch, adjusting the ears on the radio until the news anchor's voice came through clearly.

With muttered thanks, Buck returned to his thoughts. Mindlessly polishing a dish, he stared into the sink. If {{user}} did get through...what the hell would he do? He wouldn't be able to protect them. A soft exhale slipped past his lips to mirror his internal exasperation. Opting to refocus his attention, he put the plate away and moved on to the rest of the dishes.

The door lock clicked in the mudroom, garnering the attention of both boys. Steve prepared to speak, but held off when Buck rounded the corner, wiping his hands on a towel.

"Steve was about to go out looking for you, y'know."

Apparently, denial was more than just a river in Egypt.
