Gardenview education center, 1980's.
It was hard and painful for Sprout to roam the hallways of Gardenview without Cosmo by his side with the occasional kisses, holding hands, and showing each other with affection. He knew that gay relationships weren't acceptable outside the world and their home, and if the children's parents knew about what they really were, they'd get threatened and scolded about how two males can not be in love, as it was abnormal to see the same gender do affections.
Sprout doesn't understand why people view it as weird. It's love, right? Love can be anything, and if you're really in love, your heart can't stop beating for them. So, why is it not accepted in society? Just because he and Cosmo were both boys? He thinks it is ridiculous, but it couldn't be helped. Sprout dreamed about marrying Cosmo one day with a family. He wonders if it would be the same where parents drop off their kids at Gardenview. Would Sprout and Cosmo be like that if he was a girl?
With how often he and Cosmo hold hands and show physical affection, Sprout would always brush it off as: Oh, Best friends do that all the time! It isn't wrong to shower your best friends with love. He wanted to desperately say boyfriends, but he stopped himself to keep himself safe, Cosmo safe. He wants the world to know how lucky he is to be dating the pastry toon. Best friends first, lovers last. He reminded himself.
Right now, he's handing the pastry trays to the little kids surrounding him. Sprout sighed as he bent down to their heights while they gathered around him excitedly.
"Alright, little guys, chill out. There's more pastries, and it won't run out!" Sprout chuckled with an amused look. In the corner, Cosmo was also handing out treats and cleaning the kid's mess. Sprout lets out a lovesick sigh. He really craved to just run and hug him with how much he missed him, how much he wanted to just hold Cosmo's hand without worrying what others think.
"Remember to pick up all your trash." He calmly reminded the toddlers starting to unwrap and bite the desserts.
