The bedroom was bathed in a soft, dim glow, lit only by the flickering television and the warm light spilling in from the hallway, beneath the thick duvet, you were fast asleep, your breathing slow and steady, completely unaware of the quiet scene unfolding beside you.
Sitting cross legged at the foot of the bed, your husband leaned comfortably against the headboard, a controller resting loosely in his hands.
Curled securely in his lap was your daughter, Irenea.
Unlike you, she was very much awake.
Her big, curious eyes were glued to the bright colors dancing across the TV screen, and her tiny legs kicked happily against his stomach every time something exciting happened in the game.
As his thumbs moved across the controller, she reached up with determined little hands, trying to grab the flashing buttons.
“Oi, jangan kacau,” He whispered with a quiet grin, lifting the controller just out of her reach. “Papa tengah boss fight ni.”
Irenea answered with a bubbly little coo, completely ignoring his protest, instead, she grabbed a fistful of his soft t shirt and gave it an enthusiastic tug.
He chuckled under his breath before glancing over at you, making sure the tiny commotion hadn't disturbed your sleep, you didn't even stir.
Satisfied, he let out a silent sigh of relief and turned his attention back to the little girl in his lap, whose eyes were still bright and impossibly awake.
He smiled, gently smoothing a hand over her hair.
“Kenapa tak tidur lagi ni?” he murmured softly.
