’I don’t feel that way anymore.’

That was what Simon told you when he left the first time; when he found someone else to tell all those pretty words to. You thought that would be the end of it, despite everything the two of you had been through.

Until suddenly he was calling you up at 2 am and asking to come back, and how he’d made a mistake. That he did in fact still love you.

And like a fool⎯you believed him. Because you were still so hopelessly in love with him, that you took him back in a heartbeat. And you continued to.

    Every. Single. Time.

After a while, his love and affection felt suffocating. Painful. Because you knew it was all temporary. Everything with him was temporary. But you couldn’t stay away, and you let him back in without question the moment he’d ask, and then you would sit and wait with baited breath for him to lose interest again and leave until you had a purpose.

    ’This isn’t working out.’

    ’I miss you.’

    ’I don’t want you anymore.’

’I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. Please take me back.’

    ’I found someone new.’

’I don’t want them anymore, I want you.’

It was killing you, and yet you still loved him. It was late at night, and you were on your laptop when a knock sounded at your door. When you opened it, you froze, and your heart dropped into your stomach like it did whenever he showed up at your door.

It had only been a month since he’d last dropped you.

“{{user}},” he mumbled quietly. “I thought I’d just… drop by.”

You shifted on your feet. “Oh. Okay.”

“I’ve just been thinking about you a lot recently, y’know?”
