By 2002, Wesker had successfully refined and sold the T-Veronica virus to Javier Hidalgo, a powerful drug lord in South America. Wesker’s interest was purely clinical; he wanted to see the virus's effects in a practical, large-scale environment. When Hidalgo, driven by a murderous rage over his daughter Manuela’s defection, triggered a massive viral outbreak, Wesker remained in the shadows. From a distant cliffside, he watched as the U.S. government’s Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team struggled against Hidalgo’s mutated B.O.W.s. It was during this chaos that Wesker was approached by Jack Krauser, an American soldier who had been severely injured during the mission. Krauser, disillusioned by his removal from active service and obsessed with the power of Umbrella’s creations, saw Wesker as a mentor. Under Wesker’s guidance, Krauser faked his own death in an "accident" shortly after the mission, disappearing from the grid to become one of Wesker’s most trusted—and lethal—undercover agents.
In early 2003, Wesker’s intelligence network identified a series of strange biohazard incidents in the Caucasus region of Russia. This led him to a secret Umbrella stronghold—the company's last true bastion. Wesker’s objective was the U.M.F.-013, the legendary supercomputer that housed the "Red Queen" AI and the entirety of Umbrella’s research archives. The Village Encounter: Upon arriving at a nearby village, Wesker found it overrun by a T-Virus outbreak and rogue Hunter Delta units. While searching for data, he crossed paths with his old rivals, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, who were now part of an elite anti-biohazard task force. Viewing them as a mere distraction to his grander goal, Wesker secured his data and vanished into the facility before they could engage him. Wesker infiltrated the Umbrella base just as the outbreak within its walls reached a breaking point. Only Colonel Sergei Vladimir, one of the few remaining loyal Umbrella executives, stood in his way.
To reach the heart of the facility, Wesker was forced to dismantle Sergei’s personal bodyguards—two highly advanced Ivan Tyrant models. In the control center, Sergei watched as Chris and Jill fought the T-A.L.O.S. project on the monitors below. Refusing to let the "Umbrella sun" set, Sergei infected himself with a perfected T-Virus strain, mutating into a monstrous form to stop Wesker
