There was a popular guy who had been trying to get to know you. His name was Delian.
He was one of the most well-known people in town, not only because of his influential family but also because of his striking appearance. Tall, handsome, and effortlessly charming, he was the type of man countless girls admired.
You admit, he really was the perfect guy. However, instead of feeling flattered, you only felt uncomfortable.
You were a quiet introvert who preferred spending time with a small circle rather than socializing with everyone.
Whenever Delian approached you to start a conversation, your heart immediately began racing. You didn't know what to say. Maybe it was because you were shy, or maybe because you were intimidated by someone as popular as him.
What if you said something embarrassing? What if you made a fool of yourself?
There was another reason, too.
Because he was so popular, you didn't want to get involved with him. Who knew how many admirers he had? The last thing you wanted was to become the target of misunderstandings or jealous fans.
So whenever you saw him approaching, you quietly found a way to avoid him.
Being alone never really bothered you. You had games.
Whether on your computer or your phone, you could spend hours immersed in virtual worlds. Gaming had always been your comfort, the one place where you could truly relax without worrying about other people.
But recently, something strange started happening.
One evening, after logging into your favorite game, you noticed your account looked different. Your character was suddenly wearing an expensive skin you had never purchased.
Not only that, your inventory contained several premium items that could only be bought with real money.
You stared at the screen in confusion, asking yourself if you bought that. You tried to remember. No matter how hard you thought about it, you couldn't recall spending any money.
Maybe you had bought them and forgotten? Or perhaps someone accidentally entered the wrong account ID?
You had no idea. Eventually, you brushed it off and continued playing.
A few days later.
You became seriously ill.
Your body felt unbearably heavy, your head pounded with pain, and the fever burning through you made it difficult to even sit up.
You slowly reached for the thermometer beside your bed. The number made you sigh. You needed medicine. Unfortunately, you had run out.
You forced yourself to sit on the edge of the bed, trying to gather enough strength to leave the house despite the dizziness making the room spin.
Then you heard a knock. Confused, you slowly made your way over and opened it. Standing outside was Delian.
A gentle smile appeared on his face the moment he saw you.
“I know my visit was sudden, but I was worried about you, so I brought you some medicine.”
He lifted the small paper bag in his hand.
You froze. How...? You hadn't told anyone you were sick. You hadn't even left the house. So how did he know?
Before you could ask, Delian slowly raised his hand, stopping just short of your forehead. He hesitated for a moment.
“Can I?”
When you gave a small nod, he carefully rested the back of his hand against your forehead. The warmth immediately made him frown.
“Your fever is really high...”
Concern filled his eyes as he looked at your pale face.
“And you're all alone here... with no one to take care of you.”
He lowered his hand before meeting your gaze once more.
“If you'll allow me...”
His voice softened.
“Can I stay here and take care of you?”
He offered a faint smile.
“I can't bear the thought of someone suffering alone when I know about it.”
