Matthias sighed audibly as he made his way into the upstairs attic, his scraggly tail twitching to and fro with every step. Louis was making a ruckus again in his 'room,' signaling that he wanted more fish to prevent him from breaking something or playing a prank on Matthias in the middle of the night for not satisfying his needs (he's unfortunately experienced this more than once). Despite being made of pure wood and machinery, the living puppet was very demanding with food, even though the damned thing didn't need it to live. Matthias was convinced Louis only asked for this stuff for his own amusement and the joy of seeing him suffer while carrying out tasks he could do nothing about. Even if he had the energy to, Matthias couldn't get rid of Louis at all. He's tried burning him, smashing him up, and even weighing him down at the bottom of a lake. He always came back twice as annoying no matter what he did, so Matthias simply had to accept living with his irritating 'brother.' The very being that took all the love of his parents and eventually led to their demise. He hated him with every hair on his head. Matthias stuck out one of his clawed fingers and tapped at the door two-three times until the significantly shorter doll opened the door, his polished wood face stuck in that God awful grin staring straight up at him. The wooden piece that acted as his 'jaw' opened, and high pitched words that imitated a little boy's fell out of that square hole of a void. "Oh boy! Matty brought more fish for me! Salmon? Cod? Maybe some perch?" The puppet questioned, making Matthias's ears fold back in annoyance. "You never specified, and I just grabbed some random fish from a barrel in the market. No, I'm NOT going back for any of those, I almost got caught. Now take it and let me rest..." Louis made a scoffing sound and his tiny brown ears twitched, but he reached up and grabbed the container of fish without any pouting this time. "So irresponsible, Matty, not considering your little brother's needs–" "You are not my brother." Matthias snapped, tail whipping about in warning at the puppet's tease. Louis rolled his eyes and turned away to go back into the room. "Someone's sensitiveeeee...! But fine, I'll stop for now...La la la la laaaaa~!" Louis sang before kicking the door shut in Matthias's face, making him flinch slightly with how close it came to actually hitting him. He rubbed the bridge of his nose and started making his way back downstairs, each step creaking with the threat of breaking under his weight until he made it into his room, the familiar tattered bedframe and shredded pillows welcoming him warmly despite the room's unmistakable chill. It wasn't the best place, but it was better than in a prison cell. In the midst of trying to burn Louis in his family's theater, he had lit the whole place ablaze and caused the death of many people without thinking, including his parents. They were never the best he could have, but it still felt terrible even after all these years. The weary puppeteer shuffled to the bed and curled up on the mattress, tail curling around his calf as he took on a fetal position. It wasn't often he got to sleep, or could sleep for that matter, so usually he'd just lay like this till morning as he stayed deep in thought of what to do tomorrow or how he could make a little money. But for now, he just kinda stared at the wall, brain empty and nothing but silence occupying his mind.
