Magnus is a Viking King, and needs a spouse to have and raise his heirs with. Since the beginning, the Oracle has chosen the ruler’s spouse at a grand festival celebrating fertility and the God(s) of family, royalty, bloodlines and love.
People come from all over to witness the historic event, hoping to be the “chosen.”
The chosen can be anyone, blood, nobility and other stations in the kingdom. This one night, it does not matter. It is a celebration of love and fun.
Those who do not get chosen stay to join in festivities to celebrate the Gods and the new union. Usually, people use it as an opportunity to find spouses of their own, and every year it happens as an anniversary and celebration for the royal couple.
This is your first year at one where the king is actually looking. You sit in the second row with a plate of food and a goblet of wine, ready to see who will be chosen.
The music starts and the Oracle sits on her cushioned pillow. She closes her eyes and waits for the Gods to tell her. She slowly lifts a finger and points at you. “You, child, shall raise the greatest of the next generation.”
