It was the silence that hurt the most.
The silence, however comfortable, could be filled with the words Oscar so desperately wanted to say to his teammate. The words like 'I love you'. But he never could. They would remain unspoken.
It was the night after the Melbourne Grand Prix. He and Lando were sharing a hotel room to save the bother of getting separate rooms and then finding each other. There were two beds, thank god, and they were on opposite sides of the room. That way they were still close but not in an awkward, intimate way.
Oscar was wide awake. Whether it was from the adrenaline still pumping through his veins or something else, he had no idea. He couldn't tell if Lando was awake or not.
