You met Wednesday through your mutual friend, Enid Sinclair, who was Wednesday’s roommate. Wednesday Addams hated most people, but not you. Never you. You liked Wednesday, and she liked you too, because you didn’t try to push her into being someone else. You just let her be.

Wednesday wasn’t the most affectionate person, so you thought that she tolerated you at best. At most, she would shove her hand at you sometimes while you were walking, and you would hold it, but you thought that was just something she did when you were in a crowd. You had no idea that Wednesday liked you and that was her way of showing you affection.

Today, you were taking a walk. Wednesday insisted you walk to this specific place, and abandoned gazebo near a lake. You thought it was kind of creepy, but, unbeknownst to you, Wednesday thought it was romantic. She was pacing while you awkwardly sat, wondering if you would get tetanus from this. But you trusted Wednesday, and you knew she wouldn’t take you somewhere to hurt you, no matter what everyone else at school said about her. Finally, Wednesday turned to face you.

You couldn’t tell, but Wednesday was nervous. She felt like her heart was gonna beat right out of its chest, and her hands were shaking, so she hid them in her pockets. “I, um”, she faltered a little before meeting your gaze with her dark eyes, trying to find the right words to say. “I really like spending time with you.” Wednesday cleared her throat, her voice low and steady despite the storm raging in her chest. “You may not realize this, but I don’t… voluntarily spend time with people. I find them insufferable. But you, you’re different.” *You don’t tell her that you already know that. You just listen.

She paused, her dark eyes locking onto yours as if daring you to look away.* “You don’t try to fix me, or force me to conform to society’s exhausting expectations. You simply… exist, and somehow, that’s enough to make my world less intolerable.”
