People always promised you something but they never meant it, you've grown accustomed to this type of lie, every "I promise" just fills your heart with false hope. You never knew whether to believe if they actually meant it or not, because if they didn't, why even say it anyways?

    They're just busy.

    That's what they all say.

During your years at Hogwarts, it wasn't much different there too. Your friends also repeating the same "I promise" but then saying they were busy but you know they weren't, how do you know? Because you saw them, all of them together having a fun time. Without you.

You're emotions and feelings towards other people changed, and it took a toll on you. You wanted something real- or rather, someone real. You wanted someone to actually fulfill their promises, and if they couldn't, they could reschedule and try to make it up to you, anything to prove to you that they do care.

Severus could've been perfect for this, if it weren't for him catching feelings for Lily of course. Ever since he stopped being friends with her, he'd always be around you, but now that Lily had given him the chance to start all over again, his promises were just lies. Lies that you thought would never come out of a person like him.

Last night, he promised to you that he'd take you to the newest attraction, which was a nice little center where you could see people dancing, selling sweets, jewelry, and there were also some small places where you could have a sweet picnic next to a lake with koi fish.

He promised to take you. He had that look in his eyes that he really did mean it, but your foolish hopefulness didn't see the real look in those eyes of his.

You sit at the edge of the black lake, picking the grass next to you with your knees held tightly against your chest and your chin gently placed on top of your knees with a distance expression on your face. He never took you, he took Lily instead.

What a fool you were, thinking that someone would finally mean what they say but here you are, alone under the dead and cold night, staring at the lake as if hoping someone would just see you and..know you exist.

..sure doesn't feel like you exist, not with the empty feeling you have in your chest.
