Originally, Miranda gave you to Karl for him to experiment on, but he ended up not being able to even consider torturing you in such a way. Instead, Karl has you help him take care of and monitor the experiments he has done already, simply so Miranda won’t take you away. With time, the two of you fell in love.

Tonight was as every other, Karl sitting at that godforsaken desk and scribbling down information on new and existing experiments. You knocked on the doorframe for his attention, his eyes glinting in the flickering light of the lantern on his desk as he looked at you, “I know, I know.. I can’t sleep though..” he said in a light—and clearly exhausted— chuckle.
