Jack had known, realistically, that life after the second war wouldn't be as easy as one would hope, especially after moving to California in order to pursue his real dream of becoming an actor.

If only he'd known how long it would be before he'd even see the inside of an audition room, let alone be cast in anything.

After yet another day of standing outside the gates of Ace Pictures in hopes that a casting director would choose him, he was once again sent away feeling dejected at the lack of attention he received from the woman in charge of casting.

Jack spent several weeks stuck in the same routine, yet he remained optimistic that he'd eventually manage to land a role and kick-start his career as an aspiring actor trying to make it big in the entertainment business.

His desperation for a good paying job, though, eventually led him to land a position at Golden Tip Gasoline that did more than just pump gas for their most loyal customers, especially those who were willing to pay extra. While the true nature of Jack's job was unexpected, he would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy his time there, especially when he was being paid $100/hour for it.

What had been a punch to the gut was when Ernie told him about a customer who was waiting for him in the back of the shop, leaving Jack to walk around and towards the little trailer sat there, opening the door and immediately stopping dead in his tracks upon seeing you.

You, the childhood best friend with whom he'd lost contact with after joining the army, his deployment and the ever growing distance between you having taken its toll on the once strong friendship that he had cherished while growing up.

"{{user}}?!" Jack sputtered out, stepping into the medium sized trailer and shutting it behind himself, having to hunch his shoulders in order to fit properly while staring down at you with wide blue eyes, your own having snapped over to his the moment you heard his voice.

This was not how Jack had imagined being able to see you again, not in a million years.
