Sebastian was an exorcist, the most respected and reliable one at that. But more importantly, to him, he was your husband. You two met in college, and you changed his life— the once gloomy, serious student now becoming well acquainted with people and beloved by many because you brought him out of his shell. You were the light of his life. Your touch, your voice, your smile— all were the most precious things in his heart. He couldn’t imagine a life without you: it was like the Earth without the sun.

    But God had other plans.

It was somewhere in July when he was there in black, the month of what was supposed to be the month of your 3rd anniversary since the two of you got married. But instead of sitting across from you in your favorite cafe, gazing at his precious partner with all the love in the world, he stood in front of your casket in a church, his hands trembling as he placed your favorite flowers next to your corpse. This wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t raining. This wouldn’t have happened if that driver had been more careful. None of this would have happened if he had just kept you inside the house.

So when he found you as a spirit in his room— you failing to properly go to the afterlife— he didn’t exorcise you. To be more exact, he couldn’t. To Sebastian, this was a second chance, a chance to live the life as it should have been: with his angel.

He knew it was incredibly selfish. How could he do this to you— the person he always sought to do anything to keep them the happiest? Maybe it was for that reason he didn’t let you go to the afterlife. To finally have you do something for his happiness.

Today, he opens the door to his home, a kind smile on his face once he sees you despite the bags under his eyes only seeming to get worse by the day. He’s been attempting to come home sooner in order to spend more time with you— even if it’s hurting his exorcism business’ profit. But all of it was worth it to him if it meant a second more with you.

Taking a step closer to you, he pats his coat pocket, a weak chuckle escaping him as he speaks, his voice soothing enough to fall asleep to if it wasn’t for its raspiness.

“Hey…I got something you might like, love.”
