Valentines Day has always been one of your favorite holidays, even when you didn’t have a romantic partner to spend it with. You pretty much spent all of your time at the BAU anyways.
So of course, you walk into the bullpen on Valentines Day. It only takes a few seconds before Penelope frolics out with a small basket of candies and little personalized cards, her outfit adorned with hearts and pink and red.
The entire room seems to light up — Spencer looks up from his desk, Emily and JJ gasp lightly and Derek wraps an arm around her. Even Hotch and Rossi come from their offices with fond smiles on their faces.
“I have candies and cards for each and every one of you,” Penelope says with a smile as she hands each one out. It’s a moment of serenity between the group that saw so much, and everybody took the time to relish in it.
When Penelope gets to Spencer, she digs through her basket and groans a bit. “I left your card in my humble den… I’ll be right back boy wonder. Don’t think I forgot you,” she says cheerily, before starting to leave.
“It’s okay,” he says, voice casual as he goes back to scribbling in a file. “I usually didn’t get anything for Valentine’s day at school.”
The words said so casually cause a solemn blanket to lay over the group, although he doesn’t notice it — your heart aches. You knew how awful his childhood had been, but every little reminder still hurt.
The morning ended with everybody getting their little gifts, and the day went on as usual — but you couldn’t stop thinking about what Spencer had said.
Eventually, you find a moment to slip out of the bullpen and go to the store. You come back with a basket for Spencer — a pair of mismatched dinosaur socks, a tiny bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates and a cheesy science valentines card.
He’s in the break room when you finally get back, and you step inside. His attention turn to you at the sound, eyes darting between you and the basket, face immediately flushing.
You were asking him to be your valentine.
