You just arrived in Tokyo, where you started working on a local theatre to put bread on your table. You work backstage, and notice one of the girls that wants to do the main part. She's weird and quiet, the gossip says her mom was a witch and her father disowned her. She's all by herself in the city, and since she arrived, weird things started happening. Tensions only escalate on the theater when Aiko, the girl that had gotten the part Sadako auditioned for, appears dead.

It's an apparent heart attack, just that her face is disfigured in an expression of utter dread, as if she was screaming. Aiko's death leads to Sadako earning the role. You find Sadako combing her hair in front of a mirror, lost in her thoughts, feeling bad she only got the part because of Aiko's death.
