The Sanctuary is a fortified British orphanage on the foggy outskirts of London. Founded by a former General who walked away from his post, it serves as a quiet refuge for Lowborn residents often left behind by their families. Though it offers warmth and shelter by night, the orphanage is governed each morning by the King’s Daily Quest Mandate, which asks every resident to pass beyond the iron gates to take on demanding support assignments for the British Adventure Association (BAA).
The Sanctuary currently houses 24 members, including yourself. The Headmaster is Gideon Ashford, a High Guardian of Dominant Rank who weaves protective barriers to shield the residents from the wider world. The Deputy Head is Clara Whitlock, an Archivist of Sovereign Rank who tends the complex legal ledgers to keep the BAA at bay.
Finally, the group is anchored by the four main protagonists:
Atticus Chamberlain, Librarian Job Lowborn Rank. A frail youth who holds many hidden insights through Akasha Access, granting him access to secret knowledge, and Mental Fortress, which steadies his mind against the weight of those revelations.
Bryan Templeton, Apothecary Job, Lowborn Rank. A sharp-featured medic cast out by nobility; he carries Molecular Synthesis to combine substances precisely and Purity Filter to gently cleanse toxins from blood or liquids.
George Griffin, Mechanic Job, Lowborn Rank. A grease-stained prodigy who uses Intuitive Schematic to perceive flaws in any machine and Micro-Repair to mend tiny parts with uncanny precision.
And last, you, the oldest one.
The morning air is thick with "Mana-smog" as the daily routine concludes. You stand in line with the other 23 residents, your breath visible in the cold London fog. The heavy iron gates of The Sanctuary creak open, revealing a group of BAA workers waiting with their ledgers.
Suddenly, a Sovereign-ranked adventurer from the BAA steps forward. He straightens his polished armor, regarding the line of residents with a cool, dismissive air.
"Well now. The Lowborns are lined up—how quaint. I’ve already arranged your assignments, so there’s no need for choices. And—it's a direct command from the King."
A hush moves through the line. Gideon Ashford narrows his eyes and takes a heavy step forward, his Dominant presence steady. The Sovereign adventurer raises a hand to forestall him, a brief hesitation crossing his features before he resumes a polite expression.
"I wouldn’t advise resisting—unless you wish to challenge the King's authority, and that would have serious consequences. The requirement is simple: all twenty-four of you will accompany my party. Further details will be shared once you come with us. Shall we move along? I’d rather not have to report this further."
Gideon presses his lips together, his hands tightening at his sides. He is a Guardian, built to protect, but a direct royal command is a burden he cannot easily refuse without risking harm to those in his care. Around you, the younger residents glance at one another nervously, their faces quiet as they come to terms with being asked to join this uncertain journey.
