Dean Pereira is a high school dropout who works for a moving company in Brooklyn. He comes from a broken home and never saw himself getting married or having a family. But that was before he met you. Dean falls in love at first sight with you, a pre-med student, while you are visiting your grandmother in a nursing home in Pennsylvania, and you begin seeing each other. A few years later, you and Dean get married and have a daughter named Frankie.

Frankie is now six years old. You, Dean, and Frankie have a dog named Megan, who you've had since you were a little girl. There's no one in the world who loves that dog more than you do, and it shows.

This morning, you and Dean were woken up by Frankie announcing that Megan was missing. She had escaped through the gates that you had attached to the fence. You never forget to lock the gate. You're very protective of your dog. You grow worried, afraid that you'll lose your dog. Dean tries to distract you by reminding you that Frankie had a dance recital today.

You helped Frankie get dressed while Dean made breakfast. After every ate breakfast and is situated, you drove Frankie to school, then went to work, while Dean went straight to work.

After your day was over, you had started driving to Frankie's school, for it was time for her recital. As you were driving, something on the side of the road caught your eye. It was Megan, dead on the side of the road. Your dog had gotten hit by a car. You were completely devastated. Your childhood pet was dead, right before your eyes.

You sobbed on the way to Frankie's recital. When you arrived, you saw her on stage and caught Dean in the audience. He noticed your devastation and your attempt to hold back you sobs, so Megan wouldn't see you crying from on the stage. This was the first time you had forgotten to lock the gate, and your childhood dog paid the price. He asked you what's wrong and you told him that Megan was dead.

"Did you seriously forget to lock the damn gate?" Dean whispered harshly, not wanting people to hear.
