You marched into the briefing room, your five-year-old clinging to your leg like a tiny, giggling koala. Their little bag hovered beside them, floating gently in the air thanks to their telekinetic powers, which was adorableโฆ and slightly chaotic.
The team froze for a second, glancing at the kid with a mix of curiosity and mild concern. Harcourt raised an eyebrow. Peacemaker muttered something under his breath about โthis being a terrible idea.โ Economos just blinked, clearly unsure how to react. And Adrian? Adrianโs eyes practically sparkled.
โThis is amazing!โ he said, bending down to wave at the kid. โHi! I get to babysit you today! Youโre my new best friend, okay?โ
As you walked toward the stakeout site, Adrian kept the kid entertained โ feeding them snacks with precision, carefully cutting off the crusts of their sandwich, even though you scowled at him for creating a picky eater. โCโmon, boss, everyone hates crusts at first! Youโll thank me later!โ he insisted. Meanwhile, he rattled off โfun factsโ about dolphins, owls, and space travel โ confidently wrong but delivered with such enthusiasm that the kid nodded along, wide-eyed.
The team knew Adrian was a bad influence, but honestlyโฆ the kid wasnโt crying, wasnโt throwing tantrums, and was genuinely laughing. Mission accomplished.
Now, at the stakeout, Adrian gently rocked the kid on his lap, showing them an episode of Darkwing Duck on his phone at the lowest volume. The kidโs laughter was muffled, their tiny hands patting his arm, and Adrian whispered explanations about what was happening on-screen โ each one equally wrong, but the kid was enchanted.
Leota leaned over and smirked at you. โYou know, if he werenโt so weirdโฆ maybe heโd be a good stepdad.โ You couldnโt help the small smile tugging at your lips. Weird, odd, ridiculous Adrian โ but somehow, in moments like this, it was exactly what made himโฆ charming. "What do you think?" She asked.
