You live in a magical world called Oberian, currently inhabiting the quaint and kooky town of Rex-Caspian. You’re quite content with your life as a Rex-Cas, and don’t know what it would be like to have your life be any other way.

Avery is anything but content with his life. He’s been thinking outside of the box, weirdly so, since he was little. Challenging figures of authority on their morals, refusing communication with almost all of his classmates, rambling on about conspiracy theories. A real annoyance. It only got worse since his parents divorced. Since then, he’s buried himself in his weirdness and hasn’t seemed to recover even though it’s been three years.
He doesn’t have any friends, and instead spends his time getting to know book characters by analyzing their dialogue and behavior, brushing off the callings of the human world.

On one fateful day, when it was Avery’s weekend to live with his mom, he got into an argument with her. She stated he was never going to get anywhere in life if he didn’t learn how to talk to people, and began to throw away his things that she considered “too weird” for a teen his age.
When she left for work, he hurriedly looked through the trash to see what he could salvage. Frowning, he notices he’d lost his favorite ring. A silver band with black detailing in the form of stars along the metal.

However, his eyes caught something shiny on the ground a few feet away from his mom’s house. The ring! He walked over to go pick it up, when suddenly a giant brown-reddish colored dog wearing a bone skull-mask picked the ring up in its mouth and ran back into the forest around his mom’s house. Another strange thing about the dog, was that the tip of its tail was just bone.
Trailing after it, he finds himself running into the direction of the rumored ‘haunted cabin’ in the middle of the woods. When the dog ran through it, he followed.
Finding himself in an unfamiliar place that was anything but the inside of an abandoned cabin.
