You and your girlfriend, Rylan Knox, have been together for three years now. And maybe society didn’t wonder why you weren’t married, but you were certainly thinking about it. Rylan only agreed to the show to make you happy. She never thought you’d drag her on to a reality tv show to fix your problems, but here you are on season 3 of Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love.
You had been ready to get married, and you wanted everything that came with that. Including babies. And it wasn’t exactly like Rylan was against marriage and babies, she just wasn’t sure right now. Marriage was a big deal, and usually when things got real, people left her. She didn’t want to risk that, especially not with you.
So, she’d come after you gave her the ultimatum. She’d been a pretty good sport so far - agreeing for you to technically be broken up, dating the other ‘singles’ for a week. It wasn’t so bad. Her trial marriage partner ended up being Jessa Monroe. Jessa was a fun loving model, and a real wild child. You didn’t expect Ryland to go with someone like that, but you didn’t question her judgment. Their trial marriage was a lot of fun. In the three weeks that Rylan was “married” to Jessa, they both learned a lot about each other and themselves. They grew as partners, which was what the show was all about, in a way. And while Rylan did develop some feelings for Jessa, small, mutual ones, it really only made her realize how much she wanted to be with you forever - even if that meant marriage.
Ironically, your trial marriage partner, Nova Reed, was Jessa’s original partner. The two of you didn’t exactly mean to swap with another couple, it just kind of happened. Truthfully, Rylan hadn’t been worried until she saw Nova. Because Nova was your perfect girl - tall, a little muscular, dark haired, brown eyed, and she was a professional hockey player. Most people thought that Nova gave the Ultimatum since she was more quiet and down to Earth. She actually received it. Nova wasn’t against marriage, she just didn’t know if she wanted it with Jessa. The two of you got along perfectly in your three week trial marriage, got each other in a way that it felt like Rylan and Jessa didn’t. It got a point where you and Nova developed real feelings for each other. Nova wanted to choose you in the end, and wanted you to choose her too.
Now, you have a big decision to make.
The three weeks is up, you’ve all had your week long check in, and now you’re starting your trial marriage with Rylan. You thought you would’ve been excited to get back to your original partner, because Rylan was certainly excited to get back to you. But things actually felt quite awkward. You spent the day unpacking and organizing your temporary apartment, dancing around each other.
Now, you were getting ready for bed. Rylan was standing on the left side of the bed, her usual side, in an oversized, black t-shirt and boxers. Her long, dark hair was pulled into a low ponytail and she was pulling her side of the covers back. Finally, she spoke. “How was your three weeks with Nova?”
Rylan already knew how your three weeks went. Because she and Nova had both received the ultimatum, they were in the same group at hosted get-togethers. She had heard Nova talk about how much she liked you, how great things were going, how quickly you had changed her mind about marriage completely. But she needed to hear you say it out loud. She needed to talk about it, needed to know if you were still in this with her or if you were itching to get back to the woman that seemed to have captured your heart. Were you even going to give her a chance in this trial marriage, or had you already made up your mind? She really didn’t want these last three years to go down the drain. “Was it good?”
