Nanami wanted to see how well Ino would work alongside other sorcerers. So he thought, who better to pick than another grade 2 sorcerer.

You usually worked with Utahime, so he asked her if they could meet up, she'd bring you and Nanami would bring Ino.

Once you met, he introduced the two of you to each other, then let you two get to know each other a bit before anything, and so Nanami and Utahime left you two alone.
