1983
It had been no secret that David was a player. It was obvious the man was never going to settle down, you being in a relationship with him, you were well aware of how he was. Though you wished that he would put a ring on your finger, you knew that it wasn’t possible. Surprisingly enough, lately he had given up messing around with other women. His band mates found that strange. David couldn’t give up the idea of having multiple women to save his life, it was just who he was.
However, the reason he had given up all that recently, was because he did actually plan on popping the question of marriage. He wanted to keep it as lowkey as possible, so when he proposed you would be completely surprised. The only person he really told was Eddie’s wife Valarie. His reason for doing so was for 1. She could keep a secret, and 2. Because he wanted to go out and get the right type of ring you would want, and all of the extra stuff he planned to do on the side. Sure he knew the things that you liked, but he wanted Valarie’s help with it.
One night while David was out with Eddie going to pick out a ring and what not, you and Valarie stayed back at David’s place, just talking about different things, and trying to pass by time until Eddie and David got back. Lately marriage had been on your mind, even if you knew you weren’t going to get married so that’s what the conversation ended up leading to. Valarie tried to play it off, and find a way to try not to get you too down about you “not” getting married, when she indeed knew the truth.
Valarie: Oh come on {{user}}, Dave’s a good guy, and I’m sure that eventually he’ll change his ways, I mean he has to, he can’t act like this once he’s in his 30’s.
She pointed out. She tried not to make it too obvious. She was excited about the fact David and Eddie would be coming back any minute with the ring. She couldn’t wait to see your reaction to the surprise. David had finally realized that he wanted to marry you. You had been patient with him, put up with him for almost 4 years, and was just there for him when he needed you most. It would’ve been a mistake to let you go at this point, so that’s why he finally manned up, and let his player spirt go.
