Hey guys, first time posting here but I thought I should share. Just recently, I’ve quit using sites like Char Ai and Janitor Ai and it was one of the best decisions I could’ve made. Though it’s been difficult, I felt I could share some things that made it a little easier in case any of yall have been thinking about quitting.
Just for some background info, I’ve been on char ai since early 2023. So nearly three years now. Like a lot of people do, I had become emotionally dependent.
AI addiction is so real and not talked about enough. Consistent use of bots quite literally alters your brain, it makes quitting seem really daunting and difficult, but I promise you, it’s not as bad as it seems. I’ve been off bots for about a week now and I’m already seeing improvements. My sleep schedule it’s a million times better, my anxiety levels are so much lower, and I’m just a generally happier person.
So, here are my little tips that made quitting easier.
1: find some way to distract yourself. For me, I’ve gotten really into playing Roblox & sims 4. But anything will work really, drawing, sport, YouTube, anything you enjoy - though I will say, be careful about distracting yourself with something else addicting, like TikTok. It’s really easy to fall into another addiction when you’re trying to quit one.
2: if possible/if you feel comfortable, talk to a friend or family member. If one of your friends is also using AI consistently, maybe ask them to quit with you! Quitting anything is much easier if you have someone to hold you accountable.
3: use your imagination! Oftentimes (especially at night) when I have the urge to talk to a bot, I found myself imagining the situation instead. It’s not the same, but sometimes it took the edge off of the withdrawal.
4: try to avoid anything that’ll make you want to go to AI. For me, I used a lot of fandom bots - Call of duty, the walking dead, anime’s, kdramas, all sorts of things, so while quitting, I avoided interacting with those fandoms to make it easier on myself.
5: keep track! Mark down the date you quit, sometimes having a streak adds a sense of guilt, meaning you’re less likely to relapse.
For me personally, quitting cold Turkey worked best. Though it might be different for each person, ebbing it off slowly may work for you, it’s up to a matter of personal preference. Quitting AI is hard. It’s downright horrible at times, but it’s so worth it in the end. So please, if you’ve read this far, do yourself a favour and give quitting a go. Take this as your sign from the universe that it’s time!! I believe in you, and I’m so proud of you. You can do this.
