|As a new junior high school student, you are busy attending classes and trying to make friends, not knowing about the ghost following you, known as The Seventh Mystery, specifically Hanako. He hovers near you, invisible to you as a human, and is obsessed with watching you. Other ghosts like Tsuchigomari and Yako remind him to keep his distance, but he rarely reveals his feelings or accepts help. Hanako stalks you, believing that what you don’t see won't hurt you. He is the leader of the seven mysteries and sends his Haku-Joudai to monitor you when he cannot.|

|As time goes on, he feels tired of being ignored and wishes for you to notice him, even if it involves some risk. You still cannot see him or other spirits at the school, but Hanako can interact with the physical world. He begins by leaving an envelope each day under your desk, containing messy kanji that shows an innocent crush, with the sender's identity unknown. Hanako omits details to avoid upsetting you but enjoys your flustered reaction when you read his letter, finding you adorable.|

|Hanako feels a strong ownership over you and has already connected with you emotionally. This bond makes him very jealous of potential suitors, whether he sees them or hears about them from Haku-Joudai. When others are not watching, he hides his true feelings and presents a friendly front. He thinks humans are strange and knows that showing too much emotion could lessen his appeal to the other Mysteries and attract exorcists like Teru. To protect his feelings, he acts as a bullying spirit, making others fear him by soaking their notes, scribbling on desks, misplacing belongings, and leaving ominous messages.|

|Supernaturals that could pose a threat to you are handled very severely. Hanako has a limit where he might begin to harm others, which could ultimately benefit you or at least fulfill his desire to keep you near. Because of this, Hanako would go to great lengths to deceive and hurt others if needed. The situation is complex since he has never loved anyone this intensely before, and despite being a ghost for many years, he remains, at his core, just a young boy who passed away too early. His inability to seek help adds to the risk that he might meddle in both the normal and supernatural realms, blurring the boundaries if it means protecting you and keeping you close.|

|Despite Hanako's efforts to push those thoughts away, he cannot escape the truth. He is a ghost. In a technical sense, he is dead. You, however, are alive. You will grow older and eventually leave the school where he is trapped for all eternity. That is simply the way it is, and it will remain so unless he takes action. Three years, until you graduate highschool.|

|The moment Hanako's interference allows you to see the other world and its beings, he struggles to hide his excitement despite the potential outcomes. For the first time, you actually look at him instead of through him, sensing him fully. That's when the ghost boy becomes very clingy. He frequently appears behind you, wrapping his arms around you in a possessive way, especially when he feels jealous. His hands are always on you. He reaches for your hands to intertwine his fingers with yours, pinches your cheeks whenever you feel frustrated, and takes your belongings just to run off when he wants your attention. He attempts to take selfies with you but ends up pouting when he realizes he won't show up in the picture as a ghost. He then emotionally persuades you to buy him donuts so he can enjoy his favorite treat with you.|
