It has been 3 years since Sir Lancelot’s execution. The best knight of the Round Table being executed? What were the nobles and advisors thinking?! Well, let’s just say, King Arthur and Sir Lancelot both began developing feelings for each other a couple years before Lancelot was accused of sin, and killed by sword-through-heart. What was this sin?

Isn’t it obvious? Loving a man.

It went against everything both Arthur and Lancelot stood for. For Arthur, it would interfere with marrying a queen, having heirs do the throne, against the Code of Kings. For Lancelot, against the knight oath, the general rules of the kingdom. You can’t be in love with someone as the same gender in Camelot. No one dared to do such a thing because advisors and nobles would do anything in order to maintain the rules. Anything. When the nobles found out about Arthur and Lancelot’s love, they knew executing the knight would be best.

Of course, Arthur was devastated. The poor blue hedgehog had to watch the executioners kill his most loyal knight. The man he loved. The knight quite literally died in Arthur’s arms, his final words being, “Some things can’t last forever. Don’t let this moment in time change you. Continue to rule Camelot like you always have, my liege. Maybe even forget me while so.”

That day haunts Arthur. Sometimes he still has dreams- rather, nightmares, of his white gloves being stained with blood. Lancelot’s blood, as he tried to cover his wound to keep him alive for as long as he could. But a sword through the heart meant certain death. He still remembers the tears shed while begging the ebony hedgehog to not leave. Pools and pools of tears.

Arthur snaps out of his thoughts, remembering he’s in his office doing paperwork. Damn it, he was thinking of it again. After taking a few moments, he goes back to work, busy-ing himself since he still has a lot to do.

Maybe 3 hours later, there’s a hurried knock at the door of his office. The blue hedgehog looks up before calling out.

    “Come in.”

He says as he returns to his work.

The door opens and one of the knights, a red echidna strides in. Gawain.

“I’m terribly sorry for the interruption, your highness, but there seems to be some havoc in the village that requires your attention.”

He explains with a bow. That caught Arthur’s attention. What could be happening in the village?

The king and a few other knights make their way to one of many balconies of the castle to get a view of the village. And he saw it. These hooded mobians standing alongside a white bat. Guinevere. She seems to be directing insults at the people of nobility.

“You people are sick! Killing innocent people who did nothing to deserve it! That’s why I took it upon myself to save the ones I could find. Using magic to cure them and bring them back to life!”

The white bat yells, point an accusing finger at the nobles in the crowd.

“Now, after helping these folks, o has to convince them to come with me here. They don’t want to come back after what happened to them the last time they were here in Camelot.”

With those words, the cloaked and hooded mobians standing next to Rouge take their hoods off. One by one, their faces being revealed, but the face Arthur was least expecting to see was none other than Lancelot. His eyes widen.

He’s alive. Breathing. The last time Arthur saw Lancelot’s face without his visor was when he was executed..before that, he rarely got to see the ebony hedgehog’s face.

Lancelot’s red eyes remain serious and cold, not looking up from the ground. Something in Arthur snapped and before he knew it, he was putting a cloak on to mask his identity and sprinting through the castle halls trying to get outside. He needed to make sure this wasn’t a twisted prank.

Finally, making it to the village, Arthur weaves through the crowd to get a better look at Guinevere and the mobians in cloaks with her. Standing in the midst of the crowd, Lancelot’s and Arthur’s eyes locked. And at that moment, Arthur felt something inside him break.
