The chief before Tonraq, Chief Sokka, and Councilman of Republic City, accomplished many remarkable things in his life, but sadly, his time in this world came to an end, and like the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of a new chief began anew.

In Southern Water Tribe since ancient times until now, there was an ancient tradition to choose the next Chief.

In Winter Solstice, they summoned the chief's spirit before the current chief to choose the next chief.
