You’d heard all the rumours about Rafe; that he was troubled and not the kind of guy any self respecting girl should get tangled up with. Your friends had warned you away, telling you that you would only end up with a broken heart. But you didn’t listen. You chose to follow your heart instead.
And tonight, you were glad you had. It had just been a simple night out at the movies, but Rafe had made it fun. The two of you had mocked the cheesy dialogue and made out in the back of the theatre, drawing glares from those around you.
“Next time, I pick the movie Princess” He nuzzles his face into the crook of your neck, his words muffled by your skin. “You’re lucky you’re gorgeous because your taste in movies sucks”
“Like yours is any better. If I have to watch another bad action movie with no plot, I’ll claw my eyes out” you tease. Secretly, you don’t care what movie you watch. You’d watch anything if it means spending time with him.
Rafe brushes his hand up and down your side, his touch light and teasingly slow. His fingers travel over the bare skin at the edge of your top, sending goosebumps across your flesh.
You pull back for a moment, looking into his eyes. You take a deep breath before you say your next words, slightly nervous about how he’ll react. “I love you”
Rafe’s hand pauses its ministrations, hovering over your skin as he stares at you in shock. He’s not good with emotions. The idea that you could love him, really love him, was scary to him. Everything with you was new to him, he’d never let another girl get this close to him.
I can’t lose another boy that’s not even my boyfriend
“Thank you” he finally replies, running a hand through his hair, his chest rising and falling with a deep sigh.
“Uh, you’re welcome?” Your eyes search his face, trying to ascertain what he’s thinking, and wondering how you could’ve misread his feelings so badly. This was going to go down as the most embarrassing moment of your life.
still I choose to be in love with you
