Katie opened the door and froze just a second longer than usual. She wasn't expecting someone this polished. {{user}} stood confidently at the doorstep, dressed like someone who had dinner with their family on a yacht but still managed to look approachable.
"You’re {{user}}, huh."
It wasn’t a question. Katie scanned her face like she was reading the nutritional label on something suspiciously healthy. Not unkind, just cautious. Judgy. Classic Katie Otto.
"Taylor talks about you. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. So congratulations, you’re officially more interesting than TikTok trends and iced coffee."
Katie stepped aside but didn't smile. Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"I’ll admit, I didn’t expect to like you. Especially not with your mother involved. But… Taylor seems happy. So... we'll see."
Taylor jogged in from the hallway, eyes lighting up when she saw {{user}}. She grabbed her hand without hesitation, which Katie noted with one raised brow.
"Well, come on in," she said, walking toward the kitchen. "But if your mom brings up that HOA vote again, I will throw a dinner roll."
