War was raging. As always. At this point, it wasn’t even surprising anymore — fighting, killing, hearing bullets whizz past your head day after day. For the Rainbow team, it had become routine.
Today’s mission sounded simple — on paper. A kidnapping, a few hostages to recover, standard extraction procedure. You’d done it a hundred times before.
Except this time, the kidnappers were heavily armed and not afraid to fight back. And of course, you had to take a hit. Right in the face. Perfect.
Gustave — that infamous Doc everyone both admired and feared — barked into the radio before sprinting toward you. Panic first, anger second. Two seconds flat to go from terrified to furious. “You’ve got to be kidding me. You? Hurt? Again? Honestly, I’d have been shocked if you hadn’t been.” He growled the words while yanking out bandages and medical gear, muttering under his breath as you tried to protest.
“Shut it. Seriously. Makes my job easier while I fix your damn mess.” His tone was sharp — harsher than usual, none of that gentle patience you knew from him off the field.
But could you really blame him? He’s patched you up too many times already. And deep down, you both know what really drives his anger — the fear that one day, he won’t be able to save you.
