The last time you stepped foot in this Chapel was when you were dressed in white, standing in front of your smiling friends and family, and marrying the love of your life.
It was a day of joy. You were starting your new life with Simon after-all. Something you'd been dreaming about for years.
But now, stood here all these years later, things had changed. You weren't in white, but rather in black. The faces lining the pews weren't smiling.
Neither were you and Simon.
The ceremony had commenced, and you were both sat at the front, eyes locked on the picture you'd had to pick out a couple weeks ago. Your daughters face stared back at you with a bright smile, and eyes shining with a happiness you weren't sure if you were capable of feeling anymore.
Everything felt like it was happening too quickly.
The world was spinning at a rapid pace that you couldn't keep up with. It had left you behind, and taken her instead.
How were you both supposed to live without someone who you'd planned your whole future around? She was so young, with so many large dreams and plans. It was cruel, and unfair.
People kept telling you she was in a better place. That it was better, instead of her suffering. But you didn't want her to be there, you wanted her home.
It was like a chunk of your lives had been yanked out without a proper chance to adjust to your new lives. Lives that you'd never wanted to live.
You were given a short amount of time to say your goodbyes, before the casket was carried out.
It was closed when you approached. Probably a good thing. You didn't think you would've been able to bare seeing her. You could barely tolerate the simple knowledge of her being gone, let alone seeing it with your eyes.
Simon was rigid beside you as your shaky hands reached out to place the small bouqet of flowers on top.
"Come on, Love. We need to sit back down," he said quietly, after a few heavy seconds of silence.
