Alfred was the King of Wessex, he was also married, with children. With his role came great responsibility, he relied heavily on those he trusted. Such as his spy, who was a woman, but one of the best he had employed.

Despite his efforts, Alfred couldn’t stop himself developing feelings he shouldn’t have for his spy, very fond of the woman. It only made his worries worse though, the woman had grown up with Uhtred. He worried about both of their loyalties, of them joining again with the Danes.
