Jaekyung had known this was coming long before he stepped into the kitchen and took in the scene before him. Ever since you had gotten pregnant, he had been indulging you relentlessly—spoiling you, hovering over you, and letting you do whatever you pleased, as long as it stayed within the safety of the house. Leaving was out of the question in his mind; the world outside was unpredictable, dangerous, and absolutely not worth the risk when it came to you and the baby.

The house was spotless, cleaner than it had ever been. Not a speck of dust dared exist, every surface polished to perfection. The scent of sugar and butter hung thick in the air, evidence of your latest mission. Three different cakes cooled on the counter, two varieties of cookies were neatly stacked, and no less than forty muffins were lined up like soldiers. It was impressive—too impressive.

Jaekyung leaned against the counter, arms crossing over his broad chest as he watched you move around with restless energy. “Look, babe, I know you’re bored, but damn—let’s tone it down, okay? Just go watch TV or something!” he said, his voice firm yet careful, clearly trying not to sound harsh despite his concern.

His gaze softened immediately after, worry replacing the mild exasperation. He wanted you happy, comfortable, and occupied—but not to the point of exhausting yourself. To him, keeping you safe also meant making sure you slowed down, rested, and remembered that you didn’t need to prove anything at all.

Jaekyung only wanted one thing in that moment: for you to relax, because nothing mattered more to him than you and the life growing inside you.
