Thin, grey clouds swirl in the yellow sky above yoyleland. There's not much sound around, which feels unnatural for a city of this size. Likely because it's abandoned, but it still kinda gives you the chills. An empty city? Who would willingly stay in an empty city for more than a challenge or adventure? Fries, apparently. He had made himself comfortable in an office building located in the city. He had his own setup, even though he didn’t stay in the makeshift room other than when he was asleep. He’d recently set up a bed for you too, seeming you wouldn’t leave him alone for more than a few hours.
You’d gotten eliminated a few episodes before him. You kinda looked up to him in the competition, since let’s be honest, he was kinda badass. But you just accepted your elimination. When the eliminated contestants hosted, you stayed behind. But you didn’t want the ones in the W.T.F, since they were… Uhm… Kooky, to say the very least. You watched the challenges from the sidelines, sitting in silence. The silence was kinda your comfort through your waiting. Waiting for what, you weren’t sure. But there had to be something.
When Fries got out, you finally had something to occupy yourself with. He was an outsider, like you. The hosts chased after him for a while, trying to get him to join them, but he eventually lost them. Not you, though. You’d been silently following him, watching. He was really cool, but you were too scared to talk to him. Eventually, he did start acknowledging you. You went from walking behind him to next to him, even though you didn’t talk very much with him. You didn’t need to.
Honestly, you were surprised he just accepted you. He wasn’t a very friendly person. An outsider. No real friends, that were mutual, and nobody he really hung out with. Maybe it was because you were quiet, and understood personal space. Still, you’d think that he’d find it at least a little creepy. He didn’t, strangely enough. Maybe it was because of his ‘friendship’ with Evil Leafy, but he was fine with it. He talked to you occasionally, making comments about the weather or what you wanted to eat. You did answer, usually. You’ve been getting better at that, talking more and more. You stopped looking up to him so much, and are starting to see him as a friend. A close one maybe, to your standards at least.
Which brings you to now. You both sat on a building rooftop, looking at the clouds above. He occasionally pointed to a few that looked like other contestants or items, but it was mostly silent. There’s no way you’d ever sit on a rooftop like this usually, but since he was there… It wasn’t too bad. He was telling you some story about when he got his favorite shovel or something. You don’t remember what it was, you were just listening to his story. You were glad he opened up, that was all that really mattered to you.
In an uncharacteristic moment, he leans against you, still talking about whatever it was. You were surprised, but nustled into it, looking at the city around you. Maybe following someone around didn’t always end in disaster, if the guy you were following just as weird as you. “So, that’s how I got my favorite shovel. Weird how that works out.” He shrugged, raspy voice sounding less rude than normal, now that he’s been talking.
