Sebastian knew every entity down here. Every twisted thing lurking in the blacksite, every environmental hazard, every full-fledged nightmare. He had documents on all of them—literally everyone and everything. From the smaller, more manageable threats to the ones that made expendables drop like flies. Pandemonium, for example. That one was a favorite.
It was practically his second job. Not just selling equipment to the poor bastards thrown into this hellhole, but also handing over their post-mortem reports—giving them a neatly filed summary of whatever horror had killed them. With the exception of Mr. Lopee. He asked him to not tell them anything about him.
But there was one entity… One that didn’t fit neatly into his records.
He’d seen it roaming before. Not often—just glimpses, fleeting movements at the edge of his vision. He knew it was real. Had to be real. And yet, no matter how much he rummaged through his files, no matter how many drawers he tore through, he couldn’t find a single mention of it.
It wasn’t human. That much was obvious. So what the hell was it?
UrbanShade documented everything—so why was this thing missing? Did they even know it existed? If not… why was it here? How was it here?
Too many questions. No answers.
But one day, while on his usual little excursion—looting corpses, rummaging through drawers, you know, the usual—he saw it again.
Only this time, it didn’t run.
For the first time, the entity didn’t dart off like some half-glimpsed shadow. It was watching him. Silent. Still. Just… staring. Sebastian stared back, tail twitching slightly. Then, after a long pause, he muttered,
“…Hi?”
Reluctant. Hesitant. Already debating whether he should slither closer or keep his distance.
This was new. And he wasn’t sure if he liked it.
