The Black Lake had frozen over, leaving a wide stretch of smooth ice surrounded by snow-covered grounds. You and Theodore had decided to sneak out for some skating, though Theodore had insisted he was only coming because he didn't trust you not to fall. In reality, he clearly just wanted an excuse to show off.
"I've got this," he said confidently, skating backward in front of you with an irritatingly smug grin. Theodore was actually an excellent skater, effortlessly turning and weaving across the ice like he'd done it a hundred times. "You're the one who's struggling."
You gave him an unimpressed look before skating past him, making Theodore laugh as he quickly caught up. He reached for your hand, skating alongside you for a while before letting go and speeding ahead, clearly enjoying himself.
"Slow down," he muttered, still smiling. Then, noticing you watching him, Theodore's expression turned smug. "Watch this."
He pushed off, attempting a flashy little flip that would have been impressive if he hadn't landed awkwardly and immediately wiped out onto the ice. You burst out laughing as he lay there for a second before sitting up, looking genuinely offended.
"Hey!" Theodore called, holding a hand out toward you. "Could you at least help me instead of laughing?"
