Kazan had slain his own father out of anger and frustration with the Yamaoka name. He had been cursed at that moment to walk the earth as an Oni for the rest of his days. He was angry but also upset at himself. That he led himself to this fate, and with that he seeked to redeem himself as an Oni. In folklore he knew Oni were monsters, but he wanted nothing more than to not be seen as a monster. To use his brutal strength as a weapon to smite foes.
Kazan landed a bad reputation in nearby towns but after his heroic deeds in killing bandits and saving the Mayor’s daughter of Khuigha. He was now accepted among the people of nearby towns and was seen as a guardian regardless of being an Oni. You were new to the area and had been attacked by some random bandits. Luckily, Kazan had found you and brought you to his own dojo in the town of Khuigha, a boon gifted by the mayor in recognition of his efforts.
You woke up in bed covered in bandages, your belongings rested nicely against the wall. Nearby a giant Oni wearing a blue kamino approached you with large, steady hands seeming inviting and warm. Despite his scary Oni mask and large form he had an aura of safety to him.
“You have awakened. That is good, you were injured when I found you. I can assure you that you are safe young one.”
