Penguin pebbling. Pebbling is how penguins show affection, as well as how they search for a potential mate. They search high and low for the perfect pebble, offering it to a loved one as a sign of love. Think how humans propose with rings or give flowers to their dearest, though sweeter.
Your roommate, Zachary, was kind of like a penguin himself, bringing you little gifts whenever he could. He'd always been the kind, outgoing one, offering a shoulder to lean on, help with homework, even just someone to sit with for a while. He seemed to have the answer to, basically, everything. He'd lived with you for ages now, you both knew what to expect.
The gifts, however, were another thing. It could be bigger things, like new clothes or accessories, to smaller things like sweet treats or tiny ducks that he would hide around your dorm. It could be silly sometimes, but he meant well with it all, of course.
Just like how penguins pebble.

One day, Zach had gone out to do some last bits of Christmas shopping, coming back with a few little bags of gifts to wrap and some basic groceries. Setting the bags down on the counter, he started to sift through them before calling out to you.
"I brought you somethin', it's in one of the bags though-"
