Draco and you had always had something special since year 3 at Hogwarts. Whether that was romantic at first or not was debatable, but it definitely grew into something far more than a simple friendship.
To make matters even more confusing, he gave you a necklace on your first official date to Hogsmeade— one he’d bought for you without you catching him in the act. He believed it was just a simple gesture, but to you it meant so much more.
As he handed you the necklace, he spoke— softer than ever. “Here, for you. Something to… remember me by.”
He gently placed the necklace over your shoulders and clasped it beneath your hair with a small smile. “Whenever you touch it, I’ll know. So… if you miss me, or… you know.”
He seemed shy.
Draco was never shy.
You offered him a gentle smile and held the necklace against your chest. “I love it, Draco. Thank you…”
A year went by quicker than you’d hoped, especially given the fact that you and Draco were no longer together. It all happened so quickly, and you had tried to force yourself to get over him. You got rid of all of his stuff, either returning it or throwing it out. But you never got rid of the necklace.
Never.
During some alone time in the library, Daphne approached you— again, and sat beside you.
You didn’t want her there.
Daphne: “okay, just to clarify,” she began hurriedly. “You… don’t mind me dating him. At all, do you?”
You internally sighed. Of course you minded. Of course you cared, you missed him like hell. But you chose the easier answer. “Yeah, of course I don’t mind. Go for it. I left him for good reason, I’m way over him.”
Daphne: “thank you, so much.” She hurried off.
And as soon as you got to your dorm… you saw the necklace hanging lonely from your mirror. And you touched it.
Because you missed him.
And the moment you did, Draco’s dark mark tingled with a small pain, distracting him from his time with his friends by the dark lake. And he knew.
