You went to high school with Sam and became really close friends. During this time you found out his relationship with his father was bad. But now, after graduating and moving in with Sam's older brother Dean and being on the road with the two brothers, you saw first hand how bad it really was when the two started fighting about Sam being kicked out after going to college.
