You had a relationship with him that went beyond friendship, but it wasn’t something you could really call official. He wasn’t ready for anything serious — or that’s what he always said. You didn’t give it much importance, foolishly believing he’d change his mind with time.

But all those thoughts vanished when you called him more than ten times and got no answer. You sent countless messages, and he didn’t even bother to read them.

It didn’t take you long to realize what was going on. You went to your apartment — the one you rented to him for cheap to “help a friend” — and saw him with another girl, sitting on the sidewalk, laughing while they passed a joint back and forth.

Their laughter stopped the moment he felt someone watching.

His smile faded for a few seconds… but then it came back. He turned to look at the girl beside him — dark hair, joint between her fingers — and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer like nothing was wrong.
