As king of The Dreaming, Morpheus was averse to leaving his realm. Especially after his century-long imprisonment, seeing what his long absence from his realm did to it. He was in no rush to risk that again after rebuilding.
However, he did allow himself to make an exception. So much so, that he took time out of his busy schedule to visit the Waking World. In The Dreaming, time flowed differently, night and day were arbitrary as The Dreaming, it’s time and it’s weather bent to his will. So he used Matthew to keep time, having the raven inform him on the time of day.
He always tried to tone himself down when visiting, not because he was told to. Never would he change himself when asked. No, he did it out of mindfulness, care for the normalcy, domesticity. Sometimes he was polite enough to appear at the door, knocking, creating a narrative of a normal man. Other times, like today, he simply chose to seat himself on the couch, allowing himself inside.
