Your cat was a goddamned nightmare. You loved the little guy, but he seemed to run at every chance he got. Your front door opened for a second too long? He ran to the elevator. Your window was open for a fresh breeze? He tried to slip out.
It became second nature to keep everything closed, but today was a nice day. You wanted to open your windows, keeping your escape artist cat in your bedroom so he wouldn’t make his way out onto the fire escape. Of course you hadn’t accounted for him slipping out of your bedroom door when you opened it and immediately hopping onto the fire escape.
For once, he jumped back into a window, just not yours. Your neighbor, Rafe’s, window was wide open for your cat to get in. Panicking, you followed him. It could just be in and out, get your cat and leave. It would have been if Rafe didn’t come home to you picking your cat up in his living room. “What the fuck?”
