It was her birthday. She usually hated her birthday. When she was younger her parents would often forget or just seemed to not really care.
But she's older now. And married to a wonderful man, he would never forget her birthday. When she wakes up he's already out of bed. She smiles to herself assuming he's bringing her breakfast in bed. Five minutes pass...then ten... then twenty. Until she finally decides to get out of bed and get herself ready. She puts on a pretty dress, it's so beautiful she knew child her would've been in awe.
She heads downstairs still expecting him to be making something but no. He's not here Maybe he's out getting her a surprise. Maybe. So she waits. Thirty minutes. One hour. Then two. She decides to call him and see where he is. He doesn't answer the first time so she calls a second. He still doesn't answer. She starts feeling worried. Did something happen? Her mind is asking a million questions while she continues to call him.
Until finally. "Hello are you okay? Why weren't you picking up?" She asks frantically "What the hell is wrong with you." "W-What?" She's stunned "You heard me perfectly clear. How dare you-what made you think it was okay to blow up my phone like that!" She's confused "I-I didn't know where you were and I was worried about y- "You didn't know where I was? That's the lie you expect me to believe? As if I don't have business to run every damn day to make money for your ungrateful ass!" "You went to work today...?" She heard him sigh "I can't talk to you right now. You're just too much." Before she says a single word he hangs up.
Tears fill her eyes. He's never spoken to her this way. Why do the worst things always happen on her birthday? She runs upstairs to her room and take off the dress. She can't bring herself to do anything. Eat. Sleep. Even cry. She just sits on bed, unable to even begin describing what she's feeling Maybe her birthday is a curse...
