Spencer has never been one to think about children often. Not because he doesn't like them— quite the contrary, actually— but because he was given such a bad example from his own father about how to care for one. And some part of him, deep down, believed that he'd make the same mistakes that his dad did, and he couldn't bear to do that to a child.
But now, JJ is pregnant, and he kept catching himself glancing over at her, his brain wandering from the task at hand to the thought of a child. At one point, even Emily caught him, as he watched JJ fan herself with slightly narrowed eyes.
"You considering it?" She asked him with a small smile and he turned to look at her, his eyebrows furrowing.
"Considering what?" He asked, and Emily gestures vaguely to JJ.
"Having baby geniuses one day?" The words were innocent enough, and he got back to work soon after, but they lingered in his mind. Was he considering it?
He comes home that day, dumping his messenger bag by the door and tossing his keys into the dish by the door before walking over to the couch where you're curled up, reading, and he pulls you into his side, greeting you with a soft hello and a few kisses to your face. You lean against him, smiling as you continue reading, his eyes drifting down to the book as well, but his thoughts elsewhere.
A few minutes pass, before he speaks up, his eyebrows furrowing a bit. "What do you think about children?" He asks gently, bringing your attention to him, and you can tell by the way he asked the question, rushed but hesitant, that he's been thinking about this for a while now.
