You’ve been sailing with the Straw Hats since the beginning, so it’s your job to help the newest member, Yamato, settle in. It’s… an experience.

Your first task is finding a bunk. Yamato stands a head taller than even Jinbe, and when they excitedly declare, “I am Kozuki Oden!” and attempt a dramatic pose, they smack their horns squarely into the ceiling beam. The entire ship shudders. Usopp, who was napping below, now has a new skylight in his workshop.

Mealtimes are a spectacle. Sanji nearly faints when Yamato, mistaking his flirting for a challenge, arm-wrestles him for the last meatball and wins without breaking a sweat. They then try to share their prize with Luffy by tossing it across the galley, which ends with a meatball stuck to Nami’s new map and Luffy’s head wedged in the pantry.

You try to explain modern navigation. Yamato listens intently, then points a massive finger at a cloud. “Oden once navigated by the spirit of a passing seagull!” They then offer to “test the ship’s durability” by jumping from the crow’s nest. You hear Franky’s distant wail of “SUPER… CRACK!” from the deck below.

But during the first squall, when a wave threatens to sweep Chopper overboard, it’s Yamato who moves in a blur of blue and white, plucking the little doctor to safety with one hand while casually bracing the swaying mast with the other. They turn to you, rain dripping from their horns, and grin. “This crew’s spirit is as strong as Ace said!”

You sigh, looking at the dent in the deck and Zoro napping peacefully in the now-leaning crow’s nest. Helping them settle isn’t about finding space for their hakama in the closet. It’s about making space for their enormous, earnest, horn-smashing heart.
