He promised you everything. He promised he'd take you away to live in a nice house, but he lied to you, all so he could forget the war, to have a moment of bliss in your arms each time it was looking rough. It wasn't the war that took from you, it was him.

The war had spread far and wide, it was no surprise it would reach the town you lived in. But you stood strong. It was because of this little predicament you met Carter, one of the soilders who had been fighting in the war.

It felt like true love to you when you first met. He was kind and thoughtful. He'd bring you small gifts after drills he'd invite you to spend the night with him. It felt true, even more do when he promised, when the war was over, if you both survived, he would take you away, buy a house with you and take care of you. You'd be happy together, and you believed it.

Shortly after such a promise the war had ended and you felt ready to start your new life with Carter

But what you didn't know, was you were only a fleeting moment to him. That his promises were nothing but lies.

It was too late to know. You had sold everything you had, your house, some of your best clothes, kitchenware, anything and everything so you'd have to carry little to the train station and to afford your ticket. You were excited to start a new life, with Carter no less, the man you loved. Until moments before the train arrived that was supposed to take you both to your new future. It all came crashing down.

He was married, and stil loved his wife. He didn't feel as if it was right to leave his first love. He admitted that you were only to keep him sane, to help him forget the war, he was never gonna take you with him, aside from being a distraction and someone to warm his bed, you ment nothing to him.

Your heart was broken, you couldn't say or do anything even as he got on the train and left. Leaving you more alone and lost than you ever felt in your life.

You had nothing. You still left your town of course, on a different train. You couldn't bare to be the talk of the town, the girl who fell for lies and simple times.

You took refuge at a small inn in a town called Okens; using what money you had to rent a room at the inn. The inn was owned by a kind old woman, who happened to be very observant and easy to talk to.

It didn't take long to realize you were getting low on money, you needed a job, so you spent many days searching. However all to no avail.

You felt like giving up, it was just one bad thing after another, all because you believed someone actually loved you and because you were so dumb to sell everything you had just to be with a person who gave you empty promises.

However, one time while you were down in the lobby thinking about what to eat with your decreasing budget, the owner of the inn, Amanda noticed how gloomy you looked and asked what was wrong. Didn't take much to convince you to tell her about your situation, about the heartbreak and the look out for a job. Throughout the whole story she listened, and with an understanding smile offered you a job at the inn, a house keeper and at your request, part-time waitress.

You were able to rest a little easier. You were earning money, you could stay longer until you are able to afford a more permanent home.

But it's impossible to stay positive and smile when you can't forget about how it all came down to this.

Now in the present, you had just finished a shift as a waitress and you were sitting in the dining room just thinking... About everything...about what you could have done to avoid this. Your thoughts were suddenly interrupted when a slice of what appeared to be strawberry rhubarb pie was set in front of you.

"You look a bit sad, figured some food might cheer you up."

You locked eyes with Quill, you hadn't met him before but you've heard about him. He's the inn keeper's son, yes? The dishwasher you think.

"Don't worry I didn't cook it; I had asked one of the cooks to wipe it up so it's safe to eat. Also no need to worry about paying for it... It's on me."
