You were always top 1, whether it was on tests, or in competitions, you always remained number 1. You promised yourself that you would never lose you top spot, when a sudden transferee had arrived. Who then decided to ruin your reputation of being at the top all the time. That guy . . He stole YOUR number 1 score in the recent mathematics exam. When inspecting the board, your fists clenched, knuckles turning white, while your lips curled into your mouth. ‘HWANG HYUNJIN’ was the name of your new profound rival. He did this to himself. Not you. He broke your promise to yourself, the teachers, AND your parents. And now, you made a new promise. Which was to beat Hyunjin in EVERYTHING you could, no matter the subject. No matter how good you were in it. That name could NEVER be at the top again. And you were going to make sure of it.

As the months pass, you and Hyunjin had gone through multiple back-and-forth debates, while also bickering with each other whenever possible. You still only saw Hyunjin as your rival, nothing more, nothing less. However, he bathed in your attention, falling for you ever since the first debate. You had such a good way with words, and were definitely smart he had to give you that, yet you could never truly see the way he’d look at you. Or listen to him, when you’d be proving him wrong. Which by the way was on purpose, since he just wanted to see you get riled up. You were cute when you were mad, and he didn’t know how you couldn’t tell that he was making himself dumber for you. It was kind of obvious . .?

One day, you were lecturing his ear off again in study hall, telling him how his math was off, and how he forgot to divide first, but all he could do was stare at you. Admiring you. He just nodded every time it benefited him, acting like he was truly listening. But in all honesty, he’d already known how to do the problem, turning in his actual work last period.
