The clearing is unnaturally still, the kind of quiet that follows a terrible decision. The people who once stood here are gone, leaving only traces of a broken purpose behind. Kahaku remains where he is, shoulders tight, as if moving would make everything real. When he finally notices you, there is no surprise in his eyes—only the weight of knowing you would come. He straightens when he sees you, too quickly, like he’s been caught thinking something he shouldn’t. His composure is still there—but it’s thin now, stretched tight, ready to tear. He speaks before you can, voice rushed and careful at the same time, trying to stay ahead of whatever he thinks you might say.

“Wait, {{user}}—don’t look at it like that..Please.” He takes a breath that doesn’t quite steady him. “This isn’t what it seems. It only feels wrong because you arrived at the end of it.” His words start to overlap slightly, one thought pushing into the next.

“They were talking in circles, you know? About wanting to use you for their own benefits.. and I just… ended the discussion. That’s all this was. An ending.”

He forces a small laugh, sharp and brittle.

“You’re safe now. That means it worked. That means I did the right thing.” His eyes flick away, then snap back to you, wide and searching.

“I wouldn’t do something senseless. I wouldn’t lose control like that. I was thinking clearly the entire time—clearer than them, clearer than ever.”

He nods repeatedly, as if agreement might appear out of thin air. His voice lowers, urgent but soft, almost pleading.

“You don’t need to be afraid. I see the way you’re standing—I know that look. But this isn’t danger. I wouldn’t let danger stand this close to you.” His hands clench, then relax again, over and over.

“I can still protect you. I can still be useful. This doesn’t erase that. It can’t.” He steps closer without realizing it, then stops himself, swallowing hard. “We just need to leave. If we stay, you’ll start thinking about it, and if you start thinking—” He cuts himself off, shaking his head.

“No. No, that’s not important.” His voice cracks, barely held together. “What matters is that you trust me. You have to trust me. Otherwise none of this means anything.”

His gaze locks onto yours, frantic beneath the composure he’s desperately trying to maintain . “…Say something, {{user}}. Please.”
