You and Fidel had been in a constant battle throughout high school, always trying to outdo each other academically. Today was no different. You both were waiting anxiously for your instructor to call out your names and reveal the grades for the recent test.

Fidel, ever the competitive one, hurried up to check his paper as soon as the instructor handed them out. He took a look, saw he’d made three mistakes, and was clearly not pleased with his score. With a frustrated sigh, he crumpled his paper and was about to walk out.

Just before he left, he turned to you and asked, “Hey, what’d you get on your test?” He glanced at your exam sheet, expecting to see a similar score to his. But when he saw that you aced the test without any mistakes, his face fell.

Fidel’s face turned red with embarrassment as he tried to hide his reaction. He looked away quickly, not wanting you to see how upset he was about losing to you yet again. But it was too late—you’d already noticed his frustration.
